Dream of Vintage Junk

I was looking through a few blogs today and i couldn't help but notice one in particular.. this women had tons and tons of pictures of Vintage Junk that she her self collected.
I was in love with all of it.

Visit her Blog:A Cottage Industry

Growing up my mother would always find all sorts of Vintage Junk at flea markets, garage sales, outlets etc.. she would bring it home, restore it as best she could and put it around the house.
I now have a feeling that the Vintage Junk collectors passion she has is rubbing off on me. I cant help but always find something at her house that i want to take and use it around my place.

But now i think its time i do my own collecting.
Could i quit my day time job to search for vintage pieces, restore them and maybe sell them??
I dont know but sure would love to try and see where it goes.
I can imagine opening my very own vintage store of things i found and restored.

They say you could always Succeed if you do what you love.

I do have a guest room that rarely gets used, could use it as my storage unit...

With some finds that are to big for me to handle.. I have a father who is an amazing carpenter and has a work shop in his back yard who would be happy to help with any project i have.
Also a brother who is a genius when it comes to art, design and restoration.
Family business perhaps.....?

A Dream i will work at to make a Reality!

  2. Since when have you been into vintage? You've been preppy all your life (dressing preppy and acting preppy) and suddenly 4 months ago you become an expert at vintage collectibles and dressing vintage? So fake =)

  3. I think the anonymous comment is rude and unnecessary. Why is it considered fake to acquire a new taste for all things vintage? For every individual, fashion evolves and changes. Not to mention, since when was there a rule that if you were always a preppy, you have to continue being a preppy. In addition, a true fashion connoisseur never sticks to one style. Instead they own all types of styles and mix them together depending on their mood. One day they can dress all preppy in a denim skirt and and a diamond print sweater and the next day they can wear a vintage lace dress and a boyfriend cardigan, cinched with a skinny belt. Bottom line, all styles can be combined to create a unique look that you are comfortable in. And everyone can have a new found appreciation for vintage, whether it is in decor or fashion, it doesn't make them fake. Aside from that . . . lol . . . you are onto something here sister and I think you should definitely pursue it. No matter how ugly something is, look at it with this mentality "it has potential to be something beautiful!" Before owning an actual shop, you can restore these items and sell them on craiglist. The most important tip that I read a few weeks ago in regards to this is that you must visit thrift shops on a regular basis. In other words, at least twice week. Inventory comes and goes within hours. So start looking. Make it a priority every Saturday morning :)

  4. To the rude anonymous comment; it's nice to know someone's been keeping track.

And Anya, I love this whole vintage idea! I agree 100% with Zhanna.

  5. No wonder you posted your post as an anonymous because clearly you act fake in the light.
    Thank you Zhanna & Michele.
I don't even know what preppy dressing means. Iv never stuck to one specific style. As you grow up you change so does your attire and view on things. I find something I love I buy it and wear it. So sorry that this offends you.

Zhanna thanks I think it would be so fun, there not much on this side of town though. Gotta go out searching :-)

Can't wait to see pics of things you find!!
Ignore the anonymous comment, they obviously are jealous of your beauty, talent and creativity. Those kinda people make me sick.

  7. LOVING THIS, ITS GREAT TO DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE AND MAKE MONEY OFF OF IT.

TO THE RUDE RUDE COMMENT, IV KNOWN ANYA FOR A LONG TIME AND SHE HAS ALWAYS HAD A UNIQUE STYLE AND WAS NEVER SCARED TO TRY NEW THINGS.
ALWAYS HAD GREAT TASTE IN ALL SORTS OF STYLE CLOTHING, ALSO ALWAYS HAD A TASTE FOR OLD VINTAGE THINGS AND CLOTHING, THAT IS NOTHING NEW.

SO PLEASE GO BOTHER SOME ONE ELSE, NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR COMMENTS.

  8. We have much in common my dear.
I'm thinking the same idea. =)
I went into this vintage store not far from our office and there was this dresser for like $180 it was huge. I almost bought it! Except I had no truck so no where to put it. I would have repainted it white and added some anthropologie knobs to it and well debated wether to keep it or sell it..or use it in my staging..but I'm always on the look out for those great vintage junk.
Its a great hobby to get into and if you can resell furniture that would be genius!
    Good Luck.
